Psychotherapy is a collaborative exploration of your life.

It involves the building of a therapeutic relationship between the therapist and you thus creating a safe and non-judgmental environment which will facilitate looking at why you are the way you are, connect you with real feelings, help you to mourn past losses.

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Trauma

COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH ME

I offer the following different therapeutic time frames. The length and frequency of therapy depends on the presenting issues and will be discussed at our first meeting.

BRIEF THERAPY (1-5 sessions)
People are now more familiar with psychotherapy and many will see a psychotherapist at different periods of difficulty in their lives because they value the trust, support and empowerment they experienced in therapy. Such difficult periods may include the death of a significant other, loss of a job or another life crisis or a combination of stressful life events.
Frequency of sessions: weekly to start off with, with the possibility of setting remaining sessions at longer intervals
SHORT TERM THERAPY (up to 13 sessions)
This is most suitable for work focusing on a particular issue or set of issues such as working with loss (relationship break up, divorce and bereavement work). It also suits working with adolescents.
Frequency of sessions: weekly to start off with, with the possibility of setting remaining sessions at longer intervals
LONGER TERM THERAPY (13 sessions +)
For a more in-depth exploration.
It is particularly appropriate for people with more complex needs, high anxiety, a history of trauma, difficulties around identity, dissociation, low self-esteem and those who have suffered long term emotional or physical abuse, difficulties in making and maintaining relationships.
Frequency of sessions: weekly, sometimes twice weekly

STARTING THERAPY:

Finding the right therapist is very important. Our first meeting will be the opportunity for us to meet and see how comfortable you are, give you the opportunity to tell me what you are seeking and for us both to discuss the best possible way to achieve this. Nothing is set in stone and we’ll be able to review the work as it unfolds, including duration and frequency of sessions.
I aim to be alongside you in your therapeutic endeavour, providing a safe, supportive and confidential space to explore things in a non-judgemental way.

ENDING THERAPY:

Therapy may be terminated at any time by mutual agreement. Good endings are very important and will require a number of sessions (2-4) which will be based on the length of therapy and the presenting issues.
